A tribute to these involved in the show that have now passed away in the last year
Iris Cass – 18th September 1926 – 17th December 2023
Iris was born in Loxton on September 18th 1926. She loved at Caliph with her parents Wilfred and Mary Rundle. Iris went to school at Caliph then to Mitcham Girls school. She then returned home to help her father with the farm work. She leaned to play the piano and enjoyed singing. Iris married Jim Cass in June 1950 and they lived and farmed new Pata. They had 5 children David, Marion, Lorraine (dec), Timothy and Heather. Iris helped on the farm, took children to sport among many other duties and took an interest in Women’s Fellowship + Church Ladies Probus club, school parents and friends and as a convenor of the needlework section at the Loxton Show. Iris was also an entrant to many other sections of the show. She enjoyed knitting, patchwork and quilting. She had a couple of overseas trips and several to different parts of Australia with Jim. Jim and Iris retired to Loxton then to the retirement village. Iris moved to Acacia House and passed away peacefully on 17th December 2023.
Desma Altmann – 7th September 1927 – 2nd June 2024
Desma’s involvement with the Loxton Show began soon after moving into the area on her marriage to Vic in 1955. Attending the show was always an important event and included the whole family helping and exhibiting. After moving into Loxton on their retirement both Desma and Vic became more involved, and she became convenor of “collections?” as well as supporting Vic in his role as treasurer. Desma was always enthusiastic about encouraging friends and family to enter exhibits, including her children and then her grandchildren. Desma was honoured with Life Membership of the Loxton Show Society in 2012 Desma passed away aged 96 years.
